I am an electronics engineer by trade, and I've used dozens of Digital MultiMeters (DMMs), analog and digital, handheld, bench & rack mount, over the years, in my profession, home electronics projects, auto diagnostics & home projects. This little DMM packs a lot of professional features into a very inexpensive (yet robust) package.
First the basics. This DMM claims 7 functions: it measures DC volts, AC volts, DC Current, Resistance (ohms), beta (hFE) and polarity of transistors, diode polarity, and also serves as a battery tester (current under load, not just a voltage measurement). It is not an auto-ranging meter, and has several ranges for each function. DCV has ranges of 200mV, 2V, 20V, 200V and 1KV. ACV ranges are 200V and 750V. DC Current ranges are 200uA (micro-ampere), 2mA, 20mA, 200mA and 10A. Resistance ranges are 200 ohms, 2K, 20K, 200K and 2M. Maximum inputs: 1000VAC/DC, 10A. DMM requires one 9V battery for operation (included in the package). Size is 4 7/8"H x 2 5/8"W x 7/8"D, comfortably held in my hand.
Good points: Accuracy is good for a handheld of this type. It's size allows it's inclusion in the smallest of toolkits. Well shielded DMM inputs and leads. Lead tips are sharp enough for fine electronics, and the lead connectors are encapsulated, so the leads won't easily break, as they do on so many others.
Bad points: there is no automatic shutoff. You will wear our your battery if you leave the power on for extended periods of time. To replace the 9V battery, you have to remove two deep set screws with a philips jewelers screwdriver. I actually consider this a good point, as that means the back of the battery compartment won't fall off easily.
As you can tell, I like this meter. At the inexpensive price of this DMM, I have several to keep handy.
