So far, this thing seems to be working fine. I used it to check the current in a standard 120V line and it read it with just a slight deviation. This will be fine for basic electrical needs, like testing voltage and resistance, but I wouldn't bet on this thing to be accurate in situations where precision is important.



I like how it fits in the palm of your hand.



The "holster" is the rubber casing that surrounds the hard black plastic body of the meter. You have to remove this casing to get to the battery and fuse compartments. Wasn't difficult, but it took a little while to figure out that it could be removed.



Mine was shipped from the "Amazon Returns Center. " That can't be good. It didn't look used, but who knows?

I haven't used the metre much, so cannot attest to its long term viability. So far, it has been fine.

I thought I had trouble with the unit, and sent it back to Kaito. The service folks were very helpful.

I believe my problem was in the manual that came with this DMM. It is exiguous, and that is being charitable. I would not be happy if I had paid what other on-line retailers are charging for this same metre.

I recommend this unit and the seller.

Product is good and robust also. Range check precision is also good. Working fine and supplied accessories are also of good quality.



It becomes difficult to read data during night or in low lighting as there is no backlit. This should have been provided as a defacto standard.



Only limitation I found is that capasitor value range check is very limited, not more than 10mF. This is really limitation, as you, usually and always deal with higher capacity condensors.

I ordered this meter after my old one (from Radio Shack), was ruined by leaking batteries. The meter is larger and heavier than the photo suggests. It's actually a two-part package. The meter itself is gray but there is a detachable yellow rubber-like boot for the outside. This yellow boot gives the meter much of it's bulk and heft. I found the so-called instruction manual inadequate but usable. At first, I thought the meter was defective because I couldn't get a reading, but I found that once you fully seat the test-lead plugs, it works just fine. The meter ships with a 9 volt battery already installed. I love the fact that it uses a 9 volt. I am tired of the seemingly endless procession of replacement AA penlight batteries, around here. One small flaw, you have to remove the yellow protective boot and a couple of access screws to change the battery. A hinged door is much needed. Still, the meter seems to work well and though I haven't had a chance to run it through all of it's functions, it seems to be an outstanding bargain! I love this meter and regard it as a good deal.

Bought this for a basic electronics tech class at a CC. Required to be able to test for mAmps, which this does. I looked at specs and prices on Amazon and also company's site. Decided on this one because of price $25 + S&H, and specs.



When I received it, could see it was Ok, but not heavy duty. Is bare bones. No extra dials. The dial that changes the settings sounds & feels on the cheap side, a loud snap, not a reassuring soft one, but it may be sturdy. (Thus the 4 **** rating)



The cables are nothing fancy...OK, cheap, but servicable. No extra's or attachments, like alligator clips for ends of probes.



The Chinese are getting better at writing these manuals, but still there are "gaps" in the flow of info.



As far as its operating, well..it tested out fine, but have only just received it and I am no expert.



Price was a big determining factor. You get what you pay for.



Funny thing..the box that it came in says "Made in China" (duh!), but nowhere..NOWHERE on the multimeter or even the instruction booklet does it state that. Multimeter itself doesn't even have a UL#, serial#, electrical info..nothing. Hmmm..kinda strange.

Unfortunately, I found this product substandard, and had to return it, and purchase one of its competitors. The buzzer which sounds to confirm continuity was so faint that it was almost inaudible. I actually checked the battery, as I thought that might be the culprit; it wasn't. The dial used to select the function did not have a substantial "feel" - it made the product feel cheap.



I must say that the people at Northern Tool were pleasant and efficient, and I would not hesitate to purchase from them again. I contacted them regarding the return and also to see whether they had something better for a slightly higher price - but their next model up was considerably more expensive.



One might attribute all of this to the relatively low price of this item (i.e. the "you get what you pay for" maxim). However, the replacement I purchased (Equus 3320 auto-ranging digital multi-meter, also purchased from Amazon) seems to me to be much better quality at a comparable price, and I recommend this item over the one reviewed here.

I purchased this meter based purely on price expecting a flimsy feeling but functional meter that I wouldn't mind if it got damaged or fell. Instead, this meter has a nice quality feel, good balance, and enough weight to stay put.



The rubber protective casing adds to the quality feel and the test leads are nice also. The function switch is solid and clearly labeled. With the back lit display there is a lot of value for the price. I can't see how one could go wrong with this choice.

Just received this device, so far works perfect, comes with nice soft plastic case, inside - device, 2 test leads, CD with serial software, serial cable and thermocouple cable, small printed instruction manual.

Few remarks on what's disappointing:

1. Battery. You have to remove 3 screws on device back and remove back side of a case to get access to the battery. Seems inconvenient. I'd prefer separate battery compartment with easy to open lid.

2.Very brief printed manual and even no .pdf on CD with detailed instructions.

3. To measure capacitance you have to insert capacitor into special socket on front panel. Seems very inconvenient.

On the other side - attractive price, full functionality, PC interface (I wonder, do I really need it?)

Question: instruction manual says: "DUAL DISPLAY". I wonder what did they mean by "dual display"?? There is a small graph bar beneath main reading area on display - is that it?

This is a nice DMM. One of the best I've used. Measures all the usual electrical elements as well as temperature. The auto-ranging feature is fantastic.



Things that are sub par in my opinion include the manual and the pc interface. The manual is terse, but contains some useful information. The pc interface is a serial connection which my post 1972 laptop doesnt have. So I will have to get a serial to USB converter and hope the software works correctly with this. Also, the software appears to be dated in 2003, so it could potentially be out dated, but I havent been able to test it as of yet. Either way, it could use an update geared toward newer systems.



All in all, I cant complain. The backlight works well, the DMM does what I need it to, and could potentially be PC useful.

 "Vector VEC008" 2009-09-20

I bought this to monitor the depth of discharge of 12v batteries connected to solar panels, as the batteries discharged through an inverter to provide AC power. I had been using a multimeter before the Vector, then recharged the 9v multimeter rechargeable batteries from the same system when the meter wore out the 9v.



For my application, this Vector meter required a female DC connection - female CLA to battery clips - so it drained its own small operating voltage from the discharging batteries but that was hardly noticeable. The fact that it is very delicate and its reading did not match the multimeter reading made me go back to the multimeter. The multimeter gives me more accuracy with an extra number to the right of the decimal point and it is more durable. I did read another post about taking the unit apart to adjust the pot. I did this and the Vector voltage now matches the multimeter voltage but there goes the Vector warranty.



It does what it says it does, might be of more use in a vehicle, and arrived earlier than expected in mint condition. A nice feature is that it is back-lit at night but remember that it is delicate.

This is well made for a non-commercial use product. Others have claimed that it is made of cheap plastic and it will break easily. I'm sure it will break like any plastic product if it's battered and mishandled. I've tested it in three of our family vehicles and it works VERY well. There have been NO signs of a tendency to crumble or break when handled as someone described in a previous review. I like the way it tilts depending on the angle needed to view the digital readout and lighted display. This device is like having a medical thermometer around the house, available when needed. You may not use it very often but it's nice to have available. So why should it be "robust" and ruggedly built? Maybe there should be a rugged upgraded model available for the service station owner who would use it constantly. Buy it. It works well and it's a great bargain!
